TUARAN, SABAH 26 MEI 1989 : Hasil penyelidikan dan kajian selama berbulan-bulan oleh sekumpulan penyelidik haiwan dari Universiti Malaya di hutan sekitar kawasan pedalaman Sabah bagi mengesan harimau misteri yang sering menggangu penduduk setempat telah berjaya menemukan spesis harimau yang terbesar dan merbahaya pernah dijumai di dunia. Haiwan itu yg berketinggian hampir 4 meter dan dikatakan lebih tinggi dan merbahaya dari harimau pra-sejarah iaitu Sabre-tooth Tiger yang sering dijumpai di sekitar kawasan sejuk seperti di kawasan utara Kanada pada zaman pra-sejarah.

Sebelum ini, sejak 5 tahun lalu terdapat banyak laporan kehilangan haiwan ternakan di kawasan perkampungan Tuaran itu yang menyebabkan pekebun dan petani di kawasan itu takut untuk keluar berkebun dan menjalani kehidupan seharian.Ketua Biro Pertanian dan Ternakan JKK Kampung Panching, Deraman Abdullah, 60, berkata, sebelum itu, seekor lembu betina menjadi mangsa harimau yang dipercayai datang dari hutan bersebelahan ladang berkenaan.

Katanya, ancaman harimau belang itu yang berlaku sejak lebih lima tahun lalu menjadi lebih serius sejak kebelakangan ini.Kejadian terbaru berlaku Khamis lalu apabila tiga lembu hilang juga dipercayai dibaham harimau berkenaan.

Dalam pada itu,komen pengarah Jabatan Hidupan Liar Sabah yang ditemui berkata "Daripada saiz tapak kaki yang besar dan menakutkan itu, saya yakin harimau belang yang mengganas ini sebesar anak gajah dan bergerak secara sendirian mungkin selepas berpisah dengan ibunya. ini berpandukan kesan jejakan nya yang mendalam dan terbenam dan agak pelik perilakunye seperti yang dilaporkan penduduk tempatan. Jadi kami memanggil penyelidik haiwan dari Universiti Malaya ini."

Dan akhirnya harimau misteri dan mengganas hampir 5tahun ini akhirnya berjaya ditangkap oleh penyelidik-penyelidik ini dan didapati harimau ini merupakan spesis yang belum dikenalpasti lagi dan dikatakan hampir pupus. Spesis terbaru ini yang akhirnya diberi nama 'cikjahtomau' oleh pasukan penyelidik ini berjaya dipindahkan ke Zoo Melaka dan bakal menjadi tontonan umum.

569 new A(H1N1) infections

KUALA LUMPUR: The highest number of Influenza A(H1N1) cases in a day has been recorded with 569 infections.

One more death was also reported yesterday bringing the total number of fatalities to 68.

The latest victim was a 33-year-old woman who was 34 weeks pregnant. Her unborn baby also did not survive.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the woman was admitted to a private hospital in Johor Baru on Aug 8 after developing fever and cough for a day.

Five days later she was referred to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital when she experienced breathing difficulties and was given Tamiflu, he said, adding that she died on Aug 13 from severe pneumonia and respiratory failure.

After opening the Influenza Care Clinic Campaign on prevention and treating the A(H1N1), Liow said 1,533 patients with influenza-like illness (ILI) were admitted to 104 hospitals from which 195 tested positive for the virus and 35 patients are in the intensive care units.

He said 20 of those in intensive care had risk factors such as diabetes, chronic diseases, asthma, pregnancy and obesity. A total of 188 people have been discharged from hospitals, he said, adding that up to yesterday, there were 5,496 confirmed cases in the country.

Liow said that the number of cases did not reflect the true situation as it only showed cases that were confirmed by laboratory tests and those that were admitted to hospitals.

The World Health Organisation has stated that for every confirmed case, there are 20 other undetected cases in the community.

Liow added that 80% of deaths due to the virus were among the high-risk groups.

During the Care Campaign, 85 private clinics in the country will sell a box of 10 FluHalt (Oseltamivir Phosphate) capsules manufactured by Ranbaxy Malaysia at RM80, instead of the usual price of RM180.

Participating clinics can be identified with the sign ‘Klinik Cegah dan Rawat Influenza A(H1N1)’ on the door.

The public can get antiviral medicine to treat Influenza A (H1N1) for not more than RM80 a box from the network of clinics and hospitals participating in the 'Prevention and Treatment of Influenza A (H1N1)' campaign.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said till now 85 clinics and hospitals in the country had confirmed their participation.

He said under the campaign participating clinics and hospitals will be offered special prices to buy the antiviral medicine FluHalt (Oseltamivir Phospate) produced by Syarikat Ranbaxy (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.

"Clinics are not to sell the medicine for more than RM80. At one time the price went up to RM180

"We feel this is a pandemic season and with the support pharmaceutical drug suppliers we can reduce the price," he said to reporters after launching the campaign here. - Bernama

Dimaklumkan sehingga 20 Ogos 2009 jam 9.00 pagi sejumlah 1533 pesakit influenza like illness (ILI) sedang dirawat di 104 buah hospital termasuk 4 hospital swasta di seluruh negara. Dari jumlah tersebut, 195 telah disahkan positif H1N1. Pada masa yang sama seramai 188 kes telah di discaj.

Dari 195 kes yang disahkan H1N1, 35 kes berada di ICU dimana 4 kes merupakan kemasukan baru sementara 5 kes dipindah keluar dari ICU. Daripada 35 kes yang sedang dirawat di ICU, 20 kes (57%) mempunyai faktor risiko iaitu diabetes (4), penyakit kronik (5), asma (2), hamil dan bersalin (4), obesiti (1), kanak-kanak istimewa (2) dan kanak – kanak di bawah setahun (2).

Untuk makluman, satu kematian didaftarkan pada hari ini, iaitu seorang wanita berusia 33 tahun yang sedang hamil 34 minggu.
